MCH Women in Horror Month Movies Day 4: The Babadook

The Babadook has been mentioned on a list of ours before, so i won’t spend too much time talking about how great it is.

The heroes here are director Jennifer Kent and the star of the movie Essie Davis. Davis does a tremendous job of portraying a mother whose grief comes back to haunt her and her family in a devastating manner. And director Kent was a champion to get this created in her exact vision. She was granted funding from the Australian government, but informed them she was not patriotic and didn’t want the film to be “particularly Australian” as she saw it as a story that could happen anywhere.

This is another modern horror classic that is less about blood and guts, and more about creating an atmosphere and making the viewer think.
