MCH Christmas Horror Movie List Day 5: Krampus

Released in December of 2015, Krampus is a horror comedy directed by Michael Dougherty & also written by Dougherty, Todd Casey & Zach Shields. Dougherty wrote and directed one of my favorite movies, Trick ‘r Treat, so I actually very much like this film. Is the best ever? No. Is it fun? ABSOLUTELY! I’ve watched it several times during the holiday season and I don’t get tired of it. I’ve discussed this on a past podcast, but horror comedy is my favorite sub-genre. So this movie is right up my alley!

So…who is Krampus?

“In folklore, Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as “half-goat, half-demon”, who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts.“ (Wikipedia)

This movie presents a family who comes together for Christmas and doesn’t necessarily get along. The main boy, Max, believes in Santa, but starts to lose the spirit after his cousins read his letter to Santa aloud. He tears it up and throws it out the window….and that’s when the terror begins. A blizzard starts to engulf the house. The power goes out. You’ll have to watch the movie to see what happens!

Let’s just say….there’s evil gingerbread men, a jack in the box, a creepy ass angel, and Krampus himself.

Turn out all the lights and grab the popcorn! This is a fun movie that’ll definitely get you in the spirit. Cheers!
